Storytelling

About Brendan

Brendan Brooks was born in North Vancouver British Columbia. Being orphaned at an early age and getting raised by geese has given him a deep love of all breads ( I've been asked by my parents to clarify here that they are very much alive and that bread love is, in fact, their fault).  His first introduction to sound design was as a child, where he spent much of his time playing with Transformers in the living room recreating all the sound effects himself. Being heavily influenced by popular culture while growing up, he watched as movies, music, comics and video games moved from basements and backrooms to being as meaningful as some of the great works of literature. A desire to be involved in the creation of the next wave of impactful culture has lead him to create and find projects that need a hand to reach their full potential.

After spending several years pursuing a teaching degree he had the opportunity for something more creative. He helped create a wide variety of projects: from recording singers in the wee hours of the morning; to long amazing days working as a boom operator for a Crazy8s film; or hours with a soldering iron trying to figure out how to make a contact microphone work. If you need an extra pair of hands on an interesting project Brendan is always game to help.

He is formerly the host of The ThreeLivesPodcast, a weekly west coast popculture podcast. He is the editor of TruFax p'casts based out of Edinburgh, a show that asks the question "what is this? and what are we doing?". He is also proud to have worked on several passion & indy film projects with some of the most talented people, in his opinion, in Vancouver.

Why I Create

All of the best art comes from sharing thoughts and ideas. Every project I have worked on has been made better by a team of talented people working together. With the advent of digital media and distribution, art has now become a communal collaborative process and it has become much easier to share the product of that collaboration. With this ease of sharing and democratization however, it has also become much harder to have it stand out. In a generation of ‘content creators’ on websites like YouTube, reddit, SoundCloud, and the countless other sharing platforms there is no shortage of ways to make work visible.

Humans are storytellers naturally. We want to share thoughts, stories, ideas, experiences, and I want to help people share. I want people to have their voice be heard in any medium. I work in audio because i believe that voice is important and should be broadcast as clearly as possible.
